[unsoed.ac.id, Wed, 05/04/2025] The Performing Arts Laboratory at the Faculty of Humanities (FIB), Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed), collaborated with the Jagabaya Nuswantara Art Studio to hold the sixth event of the Pawiyatan series under the title “Management of Traditional Performing Arts Production in the Digital Age and Efforts for Its Preservation,” on Wednesday (May 4, 2025).
“The sixth Pawiyatan is a program of the Performing Arts Laboratory. Pawiyatan serves as a platform for discussions and dialogues on arts and culture. In this sixth Pawiyatan, the Performing Arts and Culture Laboratory is collaborating with the Jagabaya Nuswantara Arts Group and SMK Negeri 3 Banyumas, intending to foster cooperation and collaboration with arts and culture practitioners and enthusiasts in Banyumas,” said the Head of the Performing Arts Laboratory at the Faculty of Cultural Studies, Exwan Andriyan Verrysaputro, S.Pd., M.Pd.
The event occurred in the Bambang Lelono Hall of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Unsoed. Students from the Japanese Literature program and students from SMKN 3 Banyumas attended. It marked an important milestone with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Unsoed, Sanggar Jagabaya Nuswantara, and SMK Negeri 3 Banyumas.
The Dean of FIB Unsoed, Prof. Dr. Ely Triasih Rahayu, S.S., M.Hum., welcomed this initiative and collaboration and expressed hope that FIB could become a hub for collaborative arts and cultural activities.
“All nine study programs at FIB will actively support the preservation and development of art and culture, particularly Banyumasan culture,” said Prof. Ely.
Meanwhile, the Principal of SMKN 3 Banyumas, Heppy Budi Kurniawan, emphasized that this collaboration strengthens the synergy between education and cultural preservation. SMKN 3 Banyumas is a school dedicated to cultural preservation, with flagship programs in gamelan music, dance, wayang puppetry, and local culture-based broadcasting media.
During the seminar, Ridwan Bungsu, Art Director of Sanggar Jagabaya Nuswantara, emphasized the importance of production management in creating high-quality traditional performances.
“Many art groups only highlight the artistic side but forget the production aspect. In fact, both must go hand in hand to produce the best work,” said Ridwan.
He also highlighted the need for in-depth education about cultural values such as ebeg, to prevent misinterpretation or misuse. This was conveyed following a recent incident of fighting after a performance.
As a closing, the event featured an ebeg performance titled “Sing Eling”—a work that conveys a philosophical message about the importance of awareness in living life through traditional art.
