The History of the Founding of Jenderal Soedirman University

The Vision of Local Leaders Even before the university was established, the people of Banyumas had a strong desire for higher education. Both formal and informal local leaders recognized that the nation’s future depends on education. On September 20 1961, this vision was officially realized through the establishment of the Jenderal Soedirman University Development Foundation (Notarial Deed No. 32). This marked the starting point where the dreams of the community, government agencies, and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) began to come together.

Expansion began. Following the incorporation of the Faculty of Animal Science in 1966, Unsoed continued to grow until it established the Faculty of Law in 1982. The rapid growth in student enrollment demanded more adequate infrastructure. During the tenure of Rector Prof. Dr. R. Djanuar, a massive project was launched: the construction of an integrated campus spanning dozens of hectares in the Karangwangkal area, which remains the operational heart of Unsoed to this day

Today, Unsoed stands tall as a university of international standard with prestigious accreditations such as ASIIN and FIBAA. However, it remains firmly rooted in its core mission: advancing rural resources. Through the development of state-of-the-art facilities such as the Medical Nuclear Laboratory and the Academic Hospital, Unsoed continues to produce innovators who bring benefits to humanity, from the village to the global stage.
