UNSOED Student Wins Gold Medal at International Event of AISEEF 2025

[unsoed.ac.id, Wed, 05/02/25] Students from Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed) have once again won the Gold Medal for The Best Entrepreneur Award at an international level, this time at the ASEAN Innovative Science Environmental and Entrepreneur Fair (AISEEF) 2025.

AISEEF is an international competition focused on creative projects in the fields of science, innovation, and entrepreneurship, organized by the Indonesian Young Scientist Association (IYSA). This year, a total of 447 teams from 17 countries participated, both online and offline. These teams come from various regions, including Asian countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines, as well as from Europe and America, including Macedonia, Greece, Portugal, and the United States.

The online competition commenced with the selection of paper submissions on January 13, 2025, followed by presentations and judging on January 23, 2025. The results were announced during the awarding ceremony held on January 30, 2025.

The Unsoed team is led by Devina Auliya Hayati from the Pharmacy department. Other team members include Esti and Rizki Febri Pratama, both from Development Economics, Muhammad Farrel Ryandra A. from Agribusiness, and Pipin Mufidatun Rahmah from Public Health.

Devina explained that gotu kola is a plant that thrives in moist environments, particularly in peat soil. With 20.2 million hectares of peatland, Indonesia has an abundant supply of gotu kola. However, the leaves of the gotu kola plant are currently underutilized due to their bitter flavor.

“Through this innovation, gotu kola is processed into lozenges, which present a significant market opportunity due to their herbal nature and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Additionally, purslane leaves, known for their sour taste, are also incorporated into this product,” said Devina.

The ‘Cebra-Tab’ innovation highlights the practical and profitable value of purslane leaves for farmers, entrepreneurs, and the health industry. Gotu kola leaves contain asiaticoside and brahmoside, which are beneficial for enhancing memory. Additionally, the triterpenoid content in gotu kola can revitalize blood vessels, improving blood circulation to the brain.

Furthermore, the flavonoids found in gotu kola act as scavengers for free radicals. On the other hand, purslane leaves are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are beneficial for brain function, and they also provide vitamins A, B complex, and C. These nutrients play a crucial role in preventing cardiovascular diseases, particularly stroke.

Delirium is a condition that affects many elderly individuals, as well as some younger people. It can interfere with nerve and blood functions, increasing the risk of stroke for those who experience it.

Various factors can contribute to the onset of delirium, including inflammation, aging, oxidative stress, neurotransmitter imbalances, endocrine disruptions, and sleep disturbances. Additionally, the rising trend of junk food consumption raises the risk of developing this condition, as it can lead to high blood pressure and stroke. To help stabilize brain function and maintain healthy blood levels, supplements can be beneficial.

Most current brain health and stroke prevention supplements are based on high doses of L-carnitine and Vitamin E. These can lead to dangerous side effects, including stomach cramps, diarrhea, indigestion, and even bleeding. Therefore, a safer alternative to these herbal supplements is needed. ‘Cebra-Tab’ offers a solution, utilizing gotu kola leaves and purslane leaves as its core ingredients.

The team received mentorship from Muhammad Syah Fibrika Ramadhan, S.E., M.E., a lecturer in Development Economics at Unsoed. Product development and testing took place at both the Pharmaceutical Biology Laboratory and the Pharmaceutical Preparation Technology Laboratory within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Unsoed. This innovation features attractive packaging and is offered at an economical price.

This achievement serves as evidence that Unsoed students can compete on an international level, inspiring other students to pursue excellence in global arenas.
