[unsoed.ac.id, Mon, July 20, 2026] The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) at Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed) continues to expand its international network by strengthening academic collaboration with the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). This initiative follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Unsoed and IIUM No. T/551/UN23/HK.06.01/2024 dated September 24, 2024, which has been further reinforced through a Letter of Intent committing both universities to collaborate in educational development, research, and community service.
As part of the Implementation Arrangement (IA) of this partnership, IIUM organized an Academic and Collaboration Visit to the Kulliyyah of Science from July 13–15, 2026. The program included an international seminar and laboratory visits aimed at strengthening research collaboration and opening opportunities for matching studies and joint research between the two institutions.
The Dean of FPIK Unsoed, Prof. Dr. Ir. Endang Hilmi, S.Hut., M.Si., IPU, stated that this collaboration marks an important milestone for FPIK in enhancing international partnerships in education, research, and community service.
“This collaboration is a strategic step to strengthen academic and research capacity. We hope it will lead to collaborative research, innovations in marine and fisheries technology, and capacity building for both lecturers and students,” he said.
During the visit, Prof. Endang Hilmi also presented the profile of FPIK Unsoed and highlighted various potential areas of collaboration with IIUM, particularly in marine science, fisheries, coastal biodiversity, and sustainable aquaculture.
The highlight of the program took place on July 15, 2026, through an international seminar titled “Marine Biodiversity and Coastal Sustainability: Navigating Ecosystem Health, Innovation and Aquaculture Futures 2026” held at the Senate Hall, Office of the Campus Director (OCD), IIUM Centre for Natural & Health Sciences.
FPIK Unsoed contributed two guest speakers. Dr. Ir. Rose Dewi, S.Kel., M.Si., IPU., ASEAN Eng presented “Diversification of the Utilization of Microalgae Potential in Indonesia,” while Dr. Taufik Budi Pramono, S.Pi., M.Si. delivered “Strategic Diversification of Aquaculture Products Through the Domestication of Senggaringan Catfish (Mystus singaringan).”
The Dean of the Kulliyyah of Science IIUM, Prof. Dr. Kamaruzzaman Yunus, expressed appreciation for the contributions of FPIK Unsoed academics. He noted that the presentations provided new perspectives and served as a valuable platform for sharing research developments beneficial to both institutions.
The program continued with visits to various laboratories within the Kulliyyah of Science IIUM, accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Firdaus Nawi (Head of the Institute of Oceanography and Maritime Studies/INOCEM), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Fuad Miskon (Head of the Department of Marine Science), and Dr. Muhammad Fitri Yusof (Head of EDC IIUM). Through these visits, both institutions identified opportunities to utilize laboratory facilities to support future collaborative research.
Prof. Endang Hilmi emphasized that international collaboration is a key component in enhancing the quality of education, research, and innovation within FPIK. “Collaboration with IIUM is a strategic effort to strengthen FPIK Unsoed’s academic and research capacity. Through knowledge exchange, shared use of laboratory facilities, and joint research development, we hope to generate innovations that contribute significantly to sustainable coastal and marine resource management. This partnership also opens wider opportunities for lecturers and students to engage at the international level,” he stated.
Through the implementation of this collaboration, Unsoed and IIUM are committed to strengthening international academic networks and producing impactful partnerships that enhance the quality of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.
