[unsoed.ac.id, Thu, 15/01/26] – Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed) hosted a delegation from Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN), along with representatives from Kumkang Electric Industry Co., Ltd, South Korea, to discuss collaboration plans on developing renewable energy–based smart farm technology. The visit spanned two days, from January 14 to 15, 2026.
The visit was a follow-up to an initial meeting held in November 2025 at Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, where the planned implementation and development of smart farm technology by Kumkang Electric Korea were discussed. The proposed technology aims to be integrated with renewable energy sources through a photovoltaic (solar cell) system to support sustainable agriculture and livestock farming.
The BRIN delegation, representing the Microgrid Research Group from the Research Center for Electrical Power Technology (PRTK), was led by Kholid Akhmad. In contrast, the Kumkang Electric Industry Co., Ltd Korea delegation was led by Lee Koo. The two delegations were officially welcomed by Rupber of Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, Akhmad Sodiq, along with Vice Rector IV, Handoko, and other university officials on the third floor of the Unsoed Rectorate Building.

“Our visit to Universitas Jenderal Soedirman is to follow up on Kumkang Electric’s interest in collaborating on poultry farming. In this early stage of the year, the focus is on site selection and feasibility studies, which will later be reported to the Korean government to determine the program’s continuation,” said Dr. Kholid.
“After this, we will directly inspect Unsoed’s poultry farm, followed by further discussions to establish the collaboration,” he added.
According to Dr. Kholid, the program also has the potential to support Indonesia’s national Program Makan Bergizi Gratis (Free Nutritious Meal Program) by improving the technology-driven livestock sector.

“On behalf of the university leadership, we would like to express our gratitude and welcome you to Purwokerto. Unsoed has established various international partnerships, including with partners from China and Korea. This collaboration is very important because it will allow our students to learn about and become familiar with modern livestock technology from Korea,” the Rector stated.

“Currently, Unsoed has four poultry houses with a total capacity of about 100,000 chickens. If this collaboration proceeds, we are dedicated to expanding the number of poultry houses, especially if the electricity supply used later proves to be more efficient than the current system,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Lee Koo, head of the delegation from Kumkang Electric Industry Co., Ltd, explained the proposed smart farm concept, especially focusing on renewable energy use.
Mr. Lee Koo explained, “The concept we are introducing involves poultry houses with a capacity of around 20,000 chickens. For electricity needs, we will use solar panels with a capacity of approximately 100 kilowatts.”
He also noted that solar panel technology in South Korea has developed rapidly, supported by strong government policies.
“The Korean government promotes the use of solar panels, while Indonesia has considerable potential in the poultry industry. We intend to combine these strengths so they can collaborate and create mutual benefits,” he added.
Along with solar energy use, Kumkang Electric also launched an innovation in livestock waste management.
“Poultry manure will be processed into pellets and used as fuel for heating inside the poultry houses, making the farming system more efficient and environmentally friendly,” he stated.

As part of the visit agenda, delegations from Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional and Kumkang Electric Industry Co., Ltd also conducted a site visit to the poultry farm owned by Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, located in the Gunung Tugel area of Purwokerto, which has a capacity of up to 40,000 chickens.
Through this visit, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman expressed its hope that collaboration with BRIN and Kumkang Electric Industry Co., Ltd, Korea, can be soon realized as part of strengthening research, innovation, and the implementation of sustainable technology in the livestock sector. #unsoed1963 #merdekamajumendunia
